New Bridge Connection to the Old
This was a collaborative design process: we were each responsible for a particular element of the presentation, but we all worked on each element simultaneously.
This vignette, a Photoshop collage created from a combination of historic photos, Revit model, and sourced photos, describes a connection from the proposed new bridge sweeping up to meet the old bridge, that has now become a pier fixed in the water. extending from the new bridge and swirling around the old, are accessible floating wetlands and pathways.
The Eddy
Our intent was to keep the major central part of the bridge, and fix it in space and time as if it were just mid-rotation to create a pier, offering flexible space for markets, festivals, performance, and recreation. We wanted to maintain the dynamic power that the bridge had when it was still in use, and to provide this movement that we created floating wetlands formed around the bridge in an expression similar to an eddy in a stream.
Collaborative Design Process
Working as a team, we collaborated on all details of the final design and presentation. During the initial concept generation, we worked together by drawing on a single layer of trace; this made our thought process more complementary to each other rather than just trying to draw on top of each other.
